Each week we begin the Darkwood Brew show with a theme song entitled The Call. I wrote this several years ago. The inspiration came from years of working with students at Arizona State University. There were many examples of unhappy kids who were in college studying something their parents lead them to. They would ask to speak with me and often would tell of their secret desires to just play music and their conflict of having to spend time and work in an area they just weren’t interested in pursuing.
Last Monday, I had lunch with Eric and Scott Griessel and the question of retirement came up. Scott made an interesting statement. He said that he would probably do, as a hobby, what he currently does for a living. Suffice to say that Scott has realized his “tree of life”.
Each of us is called in a special way to serve. Some are fortunate to realize this early in life and others sadly go through life never following their dreams and as a result never are completely fulfilled.
I love to see someone who truly loves what he/she does for work. It is excellence realized. Solomon says it best. “Deferred hope makes the heart sick but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life”. (Proverbs 13:12)
