I don’t know how many times I have recited the Lord’s Prayer, 1000’s upon 1000’s? This new series on Darkwood Brew will go into depth on the famous prayer. We’ll hear biblical references and historical perspectives and this will all be edifying to be sure.
I believe the Prayer and all prayer is a way to encounter the living God. However, to even get a chance to do so means slowing down, quieting the noise within us. I like to recite the Lord’s Prayer very slowly and several times to allow the words to wash over me. The interesting thing about this is each time that I do this, it reveals a new meaning and message and that’s where the realization of encountering the living God comes in.
Try it, it may surprise you.

The Lord’s prayer can often become overly ritualistic and lose it’s power. The religiosity attached to it has had a toxic effect on what it means. Especially the “on the earth” part. Orthodox Christians have seen real meaning in both the heavenly realm, and the earthly one. But if do nothing with this prayer, we ignore one of the most important commands Jesus ever gave.
Thank you Chuck! I don’t slow down near enough, and appreciate the reminder. I do love the Lord’s Prayer, and am excited to hear some new perspectives on it in this series.
