The Book of Psalms is my favorite book in the Bible. While much of the Bible offers lessons in life, the Psalms offer us the wonderful opportunity to engage in a dialog with God. Virtually all human condition is covered in the Psalms. It really is a love story. That love is much like the love that can be experienced between parents and their children. But, many have not had that experience and this is where the Psalms do their best work. They open the door to the boundless love that God has for us and invite us to return in kind. Since this language is the living Word of God, it never stagnates. One can read the same Psalm again and again only to find the message constantly changing. That change reflects the change in us and our growth in the relationship we have with God. Something to remember is that God never changes, only we do.
I like to take a passage from one of the Psalms and repeat it 50 times slowly. This is a form of the ancient practice of meditation called Lectio Divina.
Try it, it might change your life.
